What are Face Fillers?

Face fillers, also referred to as dermal fillers, include Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, and Sculptra®. When we think of erasing wrinkles and restoring volume, we look to dermal fillers to help solve these issues. They help treat a variety of concerns, such as nasolabial folds, cheeks, and lips.  Dermal fillers have the ability to do the following for the face and skin:

  • Restore lost volume to the cheek area
  • Minimize dark circles or hollowness under the eye
  • Add a natural fullness to the lips
  • Reduce the smile and laugh lines around the mouth
  • Help give a youthful shape to the face
  • Restore lost volume in the hands

What are the Different Types of Dermal Fillers?

How long do Treatments take?

It typically takes between 20-45 minutes to inject fillers into the desired treatment areas.

Are Dermal Fillers painful?

We apply a topical numbing cream before injecting fillers, which makes it relatively painless.

What are the possible side effects of Dermal Fillers?

Temporary swelling, bruising, and redness is the most common possible side effects. Other rare but serious side effects can occur, such as an allergic reaction, skin necrosis, or blindness. People who get cold sores (herpes simplex infections) should start on antiviral medications before treatment to prevent reactivation of cold sores if you are receiving an injection in an area where a previous outbreak has occurred.

Who is not a Candidate for Facial Fillers?

You may not be able to receive filler injections if you are pregnant or nursing; if you have severe allergies, marked by a history of anaphylaxis or history of multiple severe allergies. Certain fillers should not be used in patients with a history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins or lidocaine. Patients who have an active infection at the injection site should not be injected with fillers.
