Sculptra® Injections in Sarasota, FL
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra® is classified as a “synthetic” filler. It works in a different manner than the more well known hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane®. When those fillers are injected beneath a wrinkle or area of volume loss, the hyaluronic acid instantly binds with nearby water molecules, plumping, firming, and hydrating the skin.
Sculptra® is different. It doesn’t provide immediate results. Sculptra® is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which works within the skin to replace lost collagen. Sculptra® is the first facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time as collagen is replaced. This makes for a natural-looking appearance that improves over time, not an instant change as with other fillers. Sculptra®is injected in three sessions over three to four months for the best results. These results can then last for two years! How are Sculptra Injections different?
Sculptra® is an FDA-approved injectable offered at American Dermatology Associates in Sarasota, FL, that helps gradually replace lost collagen with results that can last more than two years. It is a bio-stimulator composed of poly -L- lactic acid, which works subtly and gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra® helps stimulate your body to produce its own natural collagen.
What does this anti-aging treatment involve?
Sculptra® can take an average of 3 treatments performed every 4-6 weeks to achieve results. The number of treatments depends on how much correction you will require. It is custom-tailored to your specific needs.
What are the benefits of choosing Sculptra?
At American Dermatology Associates, our patients love the fact that Sculptra® delivers results for up to two years. They also like the fact that, unlike dermal fillers that are injected and simply push the skin back upward, Sculptra® stimulates the body to produce new amounts of collagen to rejuvenate and plump the skin. The poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) in Sculptra® is the key. Once injected, the body begins to absorb the PLLA, and this triggers new collagen to be produced. These new collagen strands gradually restore facial volume naturally, and the wrinkles and folds are erased or dramatically lessened in appearance.
What areas can Sculptra Injections be used?
Sculptra® is effective for treating moderate to deeper lines. It is used for these typical lines and creases that develop around the mouth:
- Marionette lines (extending downward from the corners of your mouth)
- Parentheses lines (framing both sides of your mouth)
- Nasolabial folds (running from your nose down to the corners of your mouth, also called smile lines)
- Chin wrinkles
Who are good candidates for Sculptra Injections?
Sculptra® is used to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds, and re-volumize the cheeks and temples. It is not used to plump the lips. You may not receive the injections if you are immunocompromised, if you are allergic to the product, or if you are pregnant or nursing
How do Sculptra Injections work?
Dr. Trent injects Sculptra® into the deep dermal layer of the skin. This is the base of the skin’s second layer, beneath the epidermis and above the fat layer. Dr. Trent injects Sculptra® in three sessions over the course of three to four months.
Like typical fillers, Sculptra’s aqueous gel initially provides volume where injected and pushes the depressed area back upward, but this is only temporary. After a week or so, the wrinkle can return, but to a lesser degree. This is when Sculptra® really gets to work. Microparticles of PLLA work within the deep dermis to rebuild lost collagen and provide structural skin support. As the PLLA is absorbed a collagen framework is created. This reinforced collagen structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness to shallow to deep wrinkles and folds. This new collagen framework provides results that last up to two years, about twice as long as most other fillers!
Is there recovery after my Sculptra injections?
As mentioned above, Sculptra® is injected in three sessions over the course of three to four months. There isn’t any recovery after these sessions, but patients can have some redness, tenderness, slight swelling, and bruising on the injection sites that can last for a day or so. Still, you can return to work or get back to your regular activities immediately. Although Sculptra®is a synthetic filler, the poly-L-lactic acid that triggers collagen production is a biocompatible, biodegradable substance that the body accepts.
Are Sculptra Injections painful?
Sculptra® injections can be uncomfortable, so we apply a topical numbing cream to help ease the discomfort.
How long do the results from Sculptra last?
Once you have achieved the results you desire, Sculptra® will last up to 2 years.
